Merchant server
The merchant server could be described in the broadest sense as a “merchant provider”. This is a software program for the development and operation of an online store. A merchant server is often also referred to as a commerce server.
Offer of merchant servers
According to the individual wishes and ideas for an online store, there is a diverse range of merchant servers. They range from a freeware package to a completely integrated solution with various administration options and database servers.
Merchant server systems
An online store consists of tools for displaying the product range, an administration tool and a solution for processing transactions. Additional variants are also offered for specific sales channels such as business-to-business or business-to-consumer. In addition, servers are offered for the sale of special services. Once an online purchase has been completed, the merchant server issues an invoice and processes the order. Encryption protocols such as SSL (Secure Socket Layer), S-HTTP (Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol) and SET (Secure Electronic Transaction), authentication and registration, are used to guarantee the security of payment transactions.
Domino Merchant Server from Lotus
With the Domino Merchant-Server, small companies in particular can set up online stores. The setup is supposed to be particularly simple about it. No Notes clients are required for any of the configuration steps. The web browser is used instead.
Merchant server from Microsoft
Since November 1996, Microsoft’s Merchant Server has been on the market as a response to the growing share of e-commerce in the business-to-consumer sector. This software program requires administrators to have in-depth knowledge of the Microsoft Internet Information Server, SQL Server, and Windows NT (Windows New Technology).
