Text link exchange
The term text link exchange refers to the linking of two websites. The link is made using an HTML hyperlink. The linked websites are referred to as link partners.
Types of text link exchange
Websites can be linked in two different ways. In the case of reciprocal text link exchange, both websites are linked directly. Website A links to website B and website B links to A. More effective, especially in terms of search engine optimization, is a so-called non-reciprocal link exchange. This type of linking involves more than two websites. For example, several advertising projects can be operated by one person, and the projects all have different domains. An exchange project is operated, which is used exclusively for linking with other web pages. It is possible to build up a link exchange network with several link partners. Thus, website X can link to website Z, Z then links to Y, and Y links to X.
Text link exchange for search engine optimization
Text link exchange is an attempt to direct new users to a website. In the context of the so-called link building, the text link exchange is also used in the field of search engine optimization. The link is used to improve the placement of the website in the results list of a search query in a search engine. The search engines search the web pages for links in order to determine the number of incoming links to a website. The text of the links are also compared with the contents of the target page. This link popularity is used to determine the importance of the website in a particular context. In order to improve the ranking of the website, however, the principle of “a lot helps a lot” should not be followed. The ranking of one’s own website is influenced by the quality, quantity and links, as the websites that provide links for a website often indicate the content and quality of the website.
Link exchange programs
For website operators and search engines, link exchange can be supported by link exchange programs. In most cases, link exchange programs can have a negative impact on the rating and ranking of a website. For example, websites are negatively evaluated by buying and selling links or in case of excessive link exchanges. Linking to websites that have no relation to the content of the webpage or linking to web spammers will also be evaluated negatively. Creating partner pages to use them only for linking will not improve the position of the webpage.
